Forgotten

How quickly we forget
The hearts that we have broken
To us is just a little bit
The warm soul we have frozen
On we move with life anew
our gaiety and mirth abundant
Forgetting love like an old lost shoe
Remembering it only as repugnant
What once to us was love enshrined
And happiness of great renown
Is nothing more but an old face lined
Like an old man's scowling frown
From our life's sweet garden
The flower that now is weed
We plucked and let harden
Against the flower's need
But the lessons we did learn from it
We dare not ever show
Lest we remember how quickly they forget
The love that we did know

I read your poem and I think we tend to write in the same line. I agree with you that love can become an old shoe. Sometimes we must also show our gratitude towards painful relationships since we as writers can use them as inspiaration or first -hand experience
